With the 2016/17 now in full swing, the highly anticipated new Anfield Main Stand has now finally been completed making it one of the largest all seated single stands in all of Europe, and takes the capacity of Anfield from 45,000 to over 54,000. This colossal project took over 643 days to complete from start to finish, and cost approximately £114M
Along with the new stand, the public outside area of the stadium has finally been redeveloped into Paisley Square and 96 Avenue, a road created to commemorate the 96 people who died in the Hillsborough disaster. The new public spaces & gardens outside the stadium where designed to reconnect the stadium, wider community and Stanley Park.
So what is next for Anfield stadium? Now that the Main stand has been completed, there is talk of beginning phase two of the redevelopment within the next 12 months which would involve expanding the Anfield Road end which is speculated to take the capacity to over 60,000!
